Tesla Cheapest battery pack with 1 Million Travel Life

Elon Musk has recently announces of launch of battery pack with 1 million miles travel life with more higher energy density and storage capacity than present lithium ion cell but the biggest surprise of that announcement that the cost of Tesla new car equipped with this battery pack will be equal to the gasoline/ petrol powered cars. That means the cost of new developed battery pack has very low cost than lithium ion cell with tremendous high travel range and amazing high charging life, low weight and less storage space as a added advantage.



How ever company is going to launch this first car powered by new developed battery technology first in China in partnership with his Chinese Partner.
Lets talks in details about meaning of this breakthrough in battery technology and expected chemistry of this new revolutionary battery technology.


Its difficult to imagine a battery pack last up to 1 million miles or you can say 16lacs km. This is the huge life span for any battery. At present the travel life of Tesla battery pack is about the 300000 – 500000 miles that mean a person can comfortable drive Tesla car up to 6-8 years or more which is quite impressive. But the new coming battery pack travel life is just double or more that double at can last up to 15-20 years life span. So the charging life of Battery pack is going to very high than current Lithium Ion battery pack and much advance than current lithium ion battery technology.

Lest compare this travel range with gasoline / Petrol cars. In India max life span considered for a car is about   300000 – 350000km. Now Tesla New car battery pack can travel up to 1600000km. Infect the survival of this battery pack is equal to 5-6 petrol cars.


Tesla also claim the New battery have higher energy density and more storage capacity that makes the new battery pack much light in weight or more travel range with equal weight and less battery storage space.

Now on the cost front at present lithium ion battery pack cost up to $200/kwh or you can say Rs (INR) 14000/Kwh. Lithium ion battery price in India or more specifically lithium ferrous phosphate battery pack (Imported cells from China) is cost about 14000-16000rs/Kwh depends on volume. Its expected that Tesla new lithium ion battery technology bring down the price up to $100/kwh or Rs (INR) 7000/Kwh, Which is almost half of present best lithium ion battery.

Lets understand how it will impact the electric vehicle price in India
Say A moderate power electric car in India have battery pack of 12-15Kw which can give travel range about 100-120Km.

The Cost of Tesla lithium ion battery pack is about 15Kw x 7000 Rs/Kw= 105000 Rs
A 12 Kw motor that Price will be approx. -1,40,000Rs and Controller will be of 120000 Rs.
The Cost of Drive train will be – 3.65 Lacs
The Cost of a Car with Engine and related accessories can be 3,50,000 to 5,00,000 Rs  Say 300000 so the cost of Electric car can be
=300000 + 365000 = 6,65,000 Rs.




Which is quide low in comparison of India's Electric car Mahindra E2o Priced between 9.8lacs to 11Lacs.

On the added advantage over it this battery pack will give much higher battery life. This makes the running cost very low.
We can understand it like this in Mahindra E2O the cost of battery pack replacement is 5000x 48= 2,40,000 Rs.


People using This car has calim the battery life 1lacsKm to 1.2Lacs Km. But if can compare this batter with tesla which claim of 16lacs km life.
That means it can bring down the running cost many time.

We can also compare this battery pack of India Hot favorite Tata Naxon EV on which company gives  warranty of 1.5Lacs km.






On Efficiency Front Tesla claims for higher efficiency against present lithium ion battery.  Which is also a big advantage on present Lithium ion battery.  The efficiency of present Lithium ion battery is about 90%, which further decrease with the charging life of lithium ion cell. After almost 1000 charging cycles the efficiency is reduced to 85%. This slipage of efficiency of lithium ion cell become  increases rapidely as the charging life increases.  But c Tesla Chaim they their upcoming battery pack has higher retention in terms of battery efficiency. Company their battery pack can maintain efficiency up to 95% till the 1000 charging life of battery pack. The efficiency retention will still higher after 1000 cycle. Tesla claim their battery pack cm give efficiency up to 90% even after  4000 charging cycles. Which is really huge efficiency. Thus Tesla battery pack not only gives tramedous charging life but power saving figure will be also huge due to higher efficiency retention ever after thousands of charging cycles. And if we calculate the energy saving figure over 1 million travel life without present Lithium ion battery it will be massive.
